Around 3:30 I popped her in the car with me for yet another blazingly hot day of moving stuff over. She did ok on the ride but did let out a few snarly noises. When we got there she bolted out of the car and ran to explore or so I thought. When I got ready to go back to the yucky pucky old rental place I did not see her. I was not so worried because I had left plenty of food and water out for her. I thought oh how sweet she is exploring her new domain. At about 10:30 pm that night Morris came in from work and said, I thought you took Hungrey to the new house (I had told him on the phone that evening) and I said yes I did. He said, well she is back here now. OMG I can't believe she found her way back over. How did she do it? We are still amazed. Now I worry when we do move if she will not stay with us but always come back to her original home. What to do with a wayward cat.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-11968127651116270512009-04-20T10:57:00.005-05:002009-04-20T16:49:29.622-05:00Meet ya at the sweat lodgeOn Sunday I participated in an authentic Native American Sweat Lodge ceremony. It was so fascinating. The women have to wear dresses and this point becomes funny later in the journey. You first get sage smoke waved across your body with a feather that is very special and has its own box for storage. Before you crawl into the dirt muddy floor you have to bow down and kiss mother earth. OK dirty lips won't kill me. The ceremony starts by bringing in 7 stones (lava rock) that have been heated to a million degrees in a burning fire for several hours. I was honored with being asked to be the one who crossed each stone with a sage braid and herbs were also sprinkled on by a different person. The stones are placed in with deer antlers on to the middle of the circle. Everyone settled in and you close the flap. Much singing and prayers are offered then each person shares a bit. A bit like an AA meeting combined with church but very reverent to mother earth and about being a kind and gentle person not at all preachy. Then after about 15 or 20 minutes the flap opens but you do not exit. Seven more stones are brought in and another round goes with different herbs. More singing which I did not know but it was one persons 50th birthday so I did know how to sing that part. Break again - flap opens and by this time I am dripping wet with sweat along with everyone else. Round 3 starts and it was my turn to share and I was crying - not sobbing but tears were rolling down my face as I expressed my appreciation to the group for inviting me to join in their ritual. It was very moving and I said a few more things and then it was time to take medicine. Well, not knowing exactly what the medicine was I participated. A little medicine never hurt anyone, right? It was very dark and I thought it had a slight greenish tint so I thought maybe Kiwi, oh yummy. I took the smallest piece I could find but it was not Kiwi - tasted more like mushroomy dirt. Then a huge jug of tea was passed around and many took huge swigs. I only took a sip as it looked a bit funky like it was made with wild herbs and bat butts and such. Round 3 starts and they put a very powerful strong herb on the rocks and by the time it was over I thought I was breathing fire. It was so very hot I thought I might spontaneously combust or my hair might catch on fire but I made it. Some people were laying on the ground at this point and I wondered if they passed out but everyone was fine just weak. Flap opens and man was I happy. Air - fresh air never felt so extremely wonderful! There are traditionally 4 rounds but I excused myself after round 3 along with 2 other ladies. Later I find out what I drank and ate was Peyote. Yikes - I did not have any strange visions or dreams other than thinking I was a fire breathing dragon - just kidding - just felt very relaxed and calm. I only took small amounts but no one else acted any differently either. One lady became a bit sick to her stomach but it passed. Now back to my dress - when I came out and finally rested enough to go change my clothes I noticed that my hands were purple. That alarmed me so I asked one of the women if that was normal and she laughed and said well it is probably faded off from your skirt - which it did. My legs are purple, my hips are purple - it looks like I fell down a flight of steps and my body is totally brusied. It has not washed off all the way - so maybe it will fade out in a few days.

What an experience - it was truly enlightening. Afterwards they had a huge BarBQ and fun was had by all. Try it you might like it. Or at least be able to say you participated.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-21235952829225346332009-04-01T14:10:00.002-05:002009-04-01T14:14:03.099-05:00Flat Nana and Momo go for a hike<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirYJiMIwDiwJLuJVdhRb7D6hrHhz2xDFlKiJRkR0lGEccIzOx3fBJGkUGmQlCGB5Jmbzz5jPoh6ooHvagzz7dYpPm5JsD-0vBUrkG4a50TVxxAqvoFBiUjQq88dk_o-gXpj2COhrkNNa8/s320/momo.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319802924894497298" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghvBXPG5FgMKBPBXaMXaYdshdfdxm8Ypf8Yl6jog8pO_5Tv0fGLtlUMrxZbrxNuQmCCEaBfcm0L1U-rETrCE25_Qd1SAdwRryF2faVMCjCLUUVS_buPG4RJnXR1lcB5lMTnHz8O8ylWwE/s320/nana.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319802743075019634" />
Last night Flat Nana and Momo went for our walk and they saw this enormous mountain and as you cn see they hiked up it. Hopefully we hit water before we hit China :) Will post more pics soon - promise.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-22480843263420680752008-11-11T13:34:00.003-06:002008-11-11T13:35:51.010-06:00Peacocks anyone<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPn5WATSxmvYNwnlP55ztQwlECWeJziCqJB01rj4BY7nKLKVTu-EXZbsq9e7veabdKeDzO75HTgRhUpK_D7L6HgLAZ5jTfjJIm8dPPqxt2RwFw8PHQIQaAyeY5xmyP7ZraWvukOFsQBNM/s320/IMGP1485_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267485716249247138" />
The peacocks have been eating the cat food. Morris will be on his way soon. We are going over our building ideas and plans at the moment. Amazing when I started this Blog it was just a way to keep Cactus Ridge in my mind and Heart. It came true in a very short time. I always believed it would - I just made it happen sooner rather than later. In a years time we should have our house up on our Ridge built and hopefully moved in. I am so happy and also feel so fortunate. Good things are all around me and it makes me smile.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-5692311453683470442008-07-17T12:49:00.004-05:002008-07-17T12:55:28.725-05:00Namesake<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJjH1INWJM9MT4HZl7Ow6ypjbfricYXBlndFcU24ht0fIeriFZjxRo9J04TEgM0m0CnafiKTxmc4YlMMxnTJ5qzDvP7GnMVCP2uJkGRUY0i_DBoofgNpQv_t_C0wjpswbSIZu2XMR7fl8/s320/cactus.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224042091257430482" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQN_bmYnSUMSGx-TLqz_PrFfTLo-9x_JvAjimmN3Ee2UWah1TMlT1yptsjM8dK6MlZ7oDuIQcYaxFWYKmzZmfXCTVJLfrbIxAACWxnfEmyCzlt8FAyBOiJ6bOR8R1tanwYjOl8C-0PREQ/s320/sign.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224041995108358466" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSfVGQV_cjYXbxrXDdDP_BKAuMjTq0Zsb5MtrluQImqSQlD2ZFgRe8ZmmEY-yk4TFwg8FG_gmQ7cdWRyallRwtec1zevO5zePZyfDiwid-VrRZiPbVY_xgvXRALwpgwwLn0lt-tC0fEnY/s320/flower.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224041889305103106" />
This is how Cactus Ridge got its name. There were so many little patches of cactus everywhere when we first bought the property and the flat part on the top is where we decided it was a ridge - hence - cactus ridge. The sign does not hang where the picture shows permenently but I stuck it there to take a picture. We have since mowed down a lot of the cactus because they are thorny little creatures and if and when the grandchildren come over, we did not want them to get stickers. Also, that little plant looking thing was everywhere also. I like those, they are really soft on the interior leaves - kinda fuzzy feeling. Won't be long now. We are taking our first load of stuff up there tomorrow.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-50649030883988649292008-06-30T14:44:00.003-05:002008-06-30T15:02:35.697-05:00Getting ready for the move<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0jCHroFVeh_E-b_Wv8E2FTqYKuahLFPEa2QX3OqARVga5J3IBudnw7Ptx8J0yzEyXfcEkeXz6Epqf6PVDBkCVOGeCSDqfpc4njdRjgLeng-KDKDSedFKMIkPvX1yaodBlXwyw5xutgQ/s320/feet2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217763267253741106" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbdN7brCSzOqco30lpFAZMmzDwuD-UUH9PBPIRHPrGFt71ysisdYyYP2E3AUojCJxcak09FBpeKLSgHF47mT6_DhzLYXCsxt-fsjIrpajBEnVV_clBrAV-wtIq2gjWxkD3ewY7dngWPco/s320/feet1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217763097798170642" />
As you can see by the photos we are getting ready to slow down and enjoy life more. I love riding around on the small tractor/mower. The land is a bit uneven so you bounce around and up and down. You can change the speed to really fast or really slow. You can also go in reverse. I don't mind volunteering to cut the grass when I can do it on this mower.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-18406245996174744742008-06-09T10:05:00.008-05:002008-06-09T10:14:49.524-05:00Been Away<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNYq_NCEBS-arxpj87nAMVL7DrWaOY9wfN-reSQLmhl0d5y6iRSBNRyaGKhEr6E1zbcxMuN6yZNywZErltvUjqBo5HU4v6pvgtbHq7ya2ijRWC7TObnosIU-kjRhR5bLHQbTDBec6Jy2M/s320/DRIVE1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209898382896535794" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilvR2pce3eq2D7Ovurs4KwRTwjJ-Ggn-RiYsTlkBOHIFW-IkTJlyuVjluSDRXeva2gr7vYJmkdBpgLC1522-rvu2YJYvpoIsUkb4iAIlipKB9cro5n5b4sT9U9IVXinXbeLutOYG5Z1CM/s320/drive2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209898310237081042" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7tzn5unik8YkvQ2CGZIt4MhXllEM2XFRJUIPrPr5lEqiCF2GOtXmueOlY_wk2P5HhNNe5qqh7mYJcGtK2I4asBQN4LXD6Cb9bvLvkG8sqYSPexA-ooxZ00dfHekNU8DUVIrYRvliQxu0/s320/drive3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209898232987277650" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV3M03djHptYnBpiZm8TG_Fi1VA5nhou-_gp1VAQwPc8icwsJJ9xifZu8xu86XmiOuF5Y2QhgwK4BQFTExiOvDfEhfhKX5NctVrrNsSJ9Bm2CJ13wG1SPTlygC611r7ly0F3rXrMrF0sk/s320/drive4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209898154131925186" />
Well as you can see I have been away for awhile. So much news to share. First of all I want to say Happy Birthday to my dear sweet Kalila. She is two years old today and as cute as can be. Here are pictures of our new and improved driveway. We had it regraded and crushed stone put on it and it has packed down hard just like concrete. The stone is called Kalechi and I am sure I probably spelled that wrong but you get the drift. We are moving to Austin by the end of the summer. So excited about that and can hardly wait. We decided to rent a place up in the woods to decide if that is really what we want. We found a place 2 streets down from Cactus Ridge and we are going to lease it for a year. After about 6 months we can decide if we want to build on the land or just buy another house in Austin and keep the land as our get away. That way if we do decide to build we will be close enough to supervise the contractors and make sure things are being done right. Lots to do. We listed our house last Thursday and we will see what the market brings. Send all qualified buyers our way.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-33474856344162802082008-05-02T17:10:00.002-05:002008-05-02T17:33:51.972-05:00Tag your itInstructions:
Remove 1 question from below and add in your personal question, make it a total of 20 questions, then tag 8 people in your list, list them out at the end of this post.

1. We are so missing everyone though. The kids were so much fun and we really got to play grandparents big time. The trip to the Lake District was fantastic. So pretty and we even had snow on Easter which I adore. The easter bunny even visited us. I sure wish we lived closer - this 2 times a year thing just plain sucks. Of course, the kids would be spoiled rotten. The last night there we were laying in Tosha's bed and the kids were snuggled up next to me and we were watching Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and I was in heaven. Nothing beats their cuddles. Now I will just go and have a cry.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-40401484421856065692008-03-20T16:26:00.002-05:002008-03-20T16:31:03.417-05:00Yippee Yippee Yah YahWe are off tomorrow to see Tosha, Nik, Digi and Kalila - can't wait - we are all so excited. We arrive there on Saturday and then on Sunday we all leave to go to the Lake District for some serious fun and games. Can't wait to see the kiddos. Digi said today on the phone today - don't forget the chewing gum Nana and also bring some sweeties. Little does he know they are all packed and waiting for the plane. See you all soon.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-82533458968607387682008-03-11T14:54:00.002-05:002008-03-11T15:04:36.379-05:00Mrs. Always Right<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGYMRgrp7XuL3-4INSWhrHRr91lYoMD_eKiaa86tQ-i0zH9kLm1xsCesLpOHXspTOH6WcAdHMOviELAMpyY2xOQHSM9Y8BjFhS5VjfzVvbApu5wJTB4vcOKNRO1MSesmf7Erye_idRLxM/s320/pillows.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5176575190188751234" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtMAx-MujacMRDUtva1HvVoG3ZoksIXrPx5qRTV0gm8kyE25us3fOPImvUsSwFZUzhhLOo6egfX9z3haCxDTBzX32NBzN15SCcykaK9lGBBlX2hKVcxqrpmTs_xpijaQL670GXafMnV0Y/s320/panel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5176575044159863154" />
You can see our lovely pillowcases that I think are so accurate - just kidding - but it was worth a try. Back many years ago Lady Bird Johnson established a wildflower program where the state went out and spread wildflower seeds all along the Interstate, Bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrush, and assorted over ones I can't name. It is a sight to behold while traveling up to the land in the Spring. Last year as you can see by the pictures was an outstanding year. The colors were so bright and vivid. We have spread some seed on Cactus Ridge but I guess if anything bloomed the deer and goats ate it because we never saw any flowers. I truly believe they would even eat onions if I planted them.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-39469555205974997872008-03-05T16:51:00.005-06:002008-03-05T16:59:17.164-06:00He trained them well<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiv8LlDVBvjw5FJahs4-FSwvm6VQLZofaubcT7W2A-T3naAvgRHO88lM-atzlOs4VUbh3kGRMR4F-GUzXc3Xd4vUTbHb-5nU6vQlowIRLzKkrCJ3Wqxz6lp8Cn0gqncHONRTrfoPR3pnTI/s320/moshovel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174394324978690690" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihjKSZWjA3TYdA_s5vXQlPWNGQSw-qQOgDiNCXIUSoClYRJXEGIlAYXYiMfVk1MFo9-WOERlvteAHTrdaxEfG5bFogZF_rNefkhAt3NONckdN0YfoYEHHawTAOwjuA-4CH3mnepMaYNTU/s320/gnomeshovel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174394230489410162" />
As you can see Life imitates art - so to speak. Now if we can just find a gnome riding a lawn tractor and one cooking steaks, the village would be complete. We had a fishing gnome that Tosha bought for Morris but he came to a Humpty Dumpty fate unfortunately. He was on top of the aquarium and we have these 3 super huge goldfish that like to jump out of the water and they hit the top of the tank, so one day one of them jumped up hit the top and Fisher gnome was no more. We can always go down to the state park about 9 miles down the road where we have a annual pass that we keep up and have a shower. Sometimes though we are too tired from working all day and I just wanted to be able to shower there. Sooooo Morris got a bucket, cut a hole in the bottom and glued in a piece of pipe and attached a piece of garden hose with a sprayer type nozzle. It works really well. He can heat up water with a propane tank and one bucket full will give you a complete shower and allow you to wash your hair if you turn it off while lathering up. We also now have a screen around it for more privacy because I got really spooked one night when a racoon was creeping around and making noises. I usually only have a shower after dark up there but it is a bit spooky. I make Morris sit over there with me and pass me my towel when I get water in my eyes. I know where my grandson gets that gene from as to not liking water in his eyes - me neither. This all works well in the summer but I don't think I will try it in the winter. Also, picture one shows we now have complete privacy for the potty - such a relief - literally :)Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-35538290023538262262008-02-29T12:36:00.003-06:002008-02-29T12:43:34.523-06:00Namesake<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlV1tit4_qPJA7x7XO15wLpu-nPYukVdi2kPibXfabHT_ywv2qPrznhqQnFyV7g6Fi4WXW-Ba0VyrZoUuvMjKnpkdFl0nf5cNIn6Xc2oQrKyOgsMiTJFtdiu3R35-O7QnI1FcR5TQVGE/s320/barn.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172474469824222770" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhTdnJfznenxWEgOcf39N7HxzmXrSAD3iu7l-hMxVVGkaqAILFOKKPrlzH43udX7i3MNDhtZigpnxgSMAHofINbFUbqla1s1NclA7Z07a_hSQzvJi66sCYXKwqNc5WzCoCJIKGWAkhQjI/s320/cactus.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172473194218935842" />
This is how and why Cactus Ridge got its name. When we first bought the land these little patches of cactus were all over the place. About the third year we owned the property, a big storm came and we had a terrible freeze (for Texas) we lost many patches of cactus and one really pretty tree that Morris had worked so hard on. The one in front of the barn to the left. He shaped and pruned and babied it because when we look out the front door that is what we saw. Ahhhh - but when it froze it cracked down the middle and split the tree into three parts on the ground. It was sad when we saw it but the good thing is it was a Cedar and not one of the grand old Oaks.Vickihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17269659938046682999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587791754836306314.post-53677135232281531332008-02-28T15:47:00.002-06:002008-02-28T15:51:02.656-06:00Trees<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMVdz63Shx2OnU7za6sG9dIpjdjDwNsafqcjdrQ2KLSh7BEzFXkHZg2lLwTQVgMoueZnj4RAE7Nvqo_WbkSfs19y9ycI6qyH-4fG7XGyDALZubIwSx-RXbDC4bOHW5hdFydoQrMx0vy_g/s320/tree.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5172151520486665378" />
We have the most beautiful and unusual trees on the land.
